Here's a complete walkthrough guide for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (The Sword of Destiny) for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. This guide will give you tips and strategies on how to finish each task, in each levels of this action-rpg game.
Prologue, “Kaer Morhen” Tutorial & Quest 1: Lilac and Gooseberries
“Prologue” Description: The world is in chaos. The air is thick with tension and the smoke of burnt villages. The fearsome Empire of Nilfgaard has struck again, ravaging the hapless Northern Kingdoms. The once-mighty who tried to use Geralt for their own gain are now gone. In these uncertain times, no one can say what fortune holds in store, who will bring peace to the world and who will cause it only misery.
“Kaer Morhen” Description: The Prologue cinematics are followed by the “Kaer Morhen” Tutorial quest that explains all the game’s controls through a flashback sequence.
“Lilac and Gooseberries” Description: Yennefer has contacted Geralt, finally. They have not seen each other in years. And then she sent him a letter smelling of lilac and gooseberries, of course, asking him to meet her in the village of Wiloughby “about a matter of great importance”.
Whe it came to all things Yennefer, the witcher raced off at a breakneck speed, but arrived too late. Passing armies had razed Willoughby to the ground. Yennefer was nowhere in sight. With the help of Vesemir, whom Geralt had encountered along the way. Geralt picked up her trail, which the two witchers then followed. Yennefer had ridden north, traversing wild lands and battlefields at great speed. She was in a hurry. Maybe she’s in trouble?
The game’s first “Lilac and Gooseberries” quest revolves around traveling with Vesemir to the tavern in White Orchard to ask the villagers and Nilfgaardians about Yennefer.
Tip: If you destroy an item, you will recover any runestones currently fitted in it.
Side Quest: Twisted Firestarter
“Twisted Firestarter” Description: Use the Witcher senses to look behind the forge for clues about the Arsonist.
Tip: When getting ready for combat, a proper preparation has saved many a witcher’s life. It’s worth your while to brew potions, concoct oils or visit craftsmen before engaging in combat. – Blacksmiths forge weapons, while Armorers craft armor.
Side Quest: Missing In Action
“Missing In Action” Description: Find Dune Vildenvert. Use the Witcher Senses to search for the Temerian shields with small white flowers painted on them.
Tip: Monster nests can be destroyed using the following bombs: Dancing Star, Grapeshot or Samum.
Quest 2: The Beast of White Orchard (Griffin Boss Fight)
“The Beast of white Orchard” Description: The commander of the Nilfgaardian garrison in White Orchard knew where Yennefer had gone. Shrewdly, he was unwilling to share this information for free. A man with substantial experience, he knew full well Geralt would do anything to find the sorceress. As luck would have it, there was a griffin about, a beat the commander’s soldiers had been unable to hunt down. The commander asked for the monster’s head in exchange for his help.
The witcher investigated and learned that the griffin he had encountered along the high road outside of White Orchard had good reason to prey on the local populace. The soldiers the Nilfgaardian commander had sent out to scout had, in fact, illed the griffin’s brooding mate. Griffins are known to mate for life, so Geralt felt sorry for the beast.
Ask the Hunter where he found the bodies. Kill The Wild Dogs. Then ask the herbalist about buckthorn, for you to use as bait for the griffin.
Kill the beast in the Royal Griffin boss fight:
Tip: If you expect to battle a strong opponent, you might want to complete some side quests before attacking. This will allow you to gain experience and develop your character, giving you a better chance of winning the fight.
Side Quest: A Frying Pan, Spick and Span
Here we will finally finish the first quest “Lilac and Gooseberries” by finding Yennefer.
“A Frying Pan, Spick and Span” Description: Geralt has been hired for his next grand adventure, to retrieve a woman’s… frying pan!? Look around inside the hut for a frying pan using your Witcher Senses.
Tip: The color of an enemy’s health bar indicates whether you should fight it with your steel or silver sword.
Quest 3: Imperial Audience
“Imperial Audience” Description: Geralt’s head was abuzz with questions. What had Yennefer gotten into? How had the Hunt found them? Why was it looking for them? Why had he been summoned to Vizima to visit the emperor?
Protip: The General’s questions you get before meeting with the Emperor are actually important choices that carry over from The Witcher 2’s storyline. Listen to the pros and cons of each choice in this “The Witcher 3 Decisions from Previous Games Explained” article later.
