The long-awaited Final Fantasy XV will finally be released worldwide on 30 September, publisher Square Enix has revealed -- and a demo is available now.

Game director Hajime Tabata made the announcement at the Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV live event in Los Angeles this morning. Although the release date had leaked ahead of schedule, fans will be pleased by the official confirmation, especially given the ten-year wait for its release.

Final Fantasy XV has had a long and curious development cycle. Originally announced in 2006 as a Final Fantasy XIII companion title, production went silent for years before the game was re-introduced at E3 2013. Although characters and a loose scenario remain the same, Tabata told WIRED in 2014 that little else remains of what was once Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

The full game follows Noctis, crown prince of the kingdom of Lucis, as he travels the world with his comrades Ignis, Gladiolus, and Prompto. With Lucis under attack by rival nation Niflheim, Noctis and co have taken to the road to find a way to restore their kingdom.

At the moment, The latest FINAL FANTASY XV trailer “Reclaim Your Throne” reveals the iconic Astral – Titan. In addition to that, the latest trailer features new music tracks from composer Yoko Shimomura and a fresh cover of the iconic song "Stand by Me" re-imagined by Florence + the Machine.
