Path of Exile Ranger Guide- The Dual Dreamfeather Build

Hello fellow Exiles! Welcome to another Path of Exile guide. This time, we will be sharing a dual dreamfeather (sword) build for Rangers created by Tempada.

This build plays on the synergy between Dreamfeather, Queen of the Forest, and a high evasion rating, where more evasion means more damage and celerity. Cleave, largely powered by Wrath and Herald of Thunder, is the primary attack. Dodge, evasion, and movement speed (on top of a little block chance and a fair amount of life) provide defense.

While comparatively inexpensive, this is not a budget build; it requires some very specific items and socket colors. Despite high dodge and evasion, this is not an ideal hardcore build since block chance is low, armour is nonexistent, and a typical mitigation chest like Belly of the Beast or Lightning Coil severely limits damage potential. This is, however, a unique build that's fast, fun, considerable bang for your buck. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Items Required for a Ranger Dual Dreamfeather Build

For the weapons, you need two Dreamfeather Eternal Sword with 2 attacks per second each. The first Dreamfeather sword must be socketed with Cast When Damage Taken, Poacher's Mark and Enduring Cry while the second sword must have Reduced Mana, Clarity and Blood Magic.

For Armor, you must take Queen of the Forest Destiny Leather. This item must have an Evasion Rating over 2000. The movement speed bonus is HUGE and one of the things that makes this build such a joy to play. For sockets, it must have 6 slot and these are the gems you should use:
  • Cleave
  • Faster Attacks
  • Added Lightning Damage
  • Culling Strike
  • Weapon Elemental Damage
  • Life Leech
For the head, take Alpha's Howl Sinner Tricorne. This item must have 100% increased Evasion Rating. This helm makes it possible to run Reduced Mana, Grace, Wrath, and Herald of Thunder with only a four point investment on the tree.

For your boots, choose Atziri's Step Slink Boots. It must have 16% Chance to Dodge Spell Damage and must be socketed with Leap Slam, Curse on Hit, Faster Attacks and Elemental Weakness.

For your belt, take Oblivion Girdle Heavy Belt.

Your amulet must atleast be Horror Talisman Onyx Amulet with at least 2% of Physical Attack Damage Leeched as Mana. You can take Torment Twirl Topaz Ring as the other amulet.

And lastly for gears, try to get Oblivion Eye Two-Stone Ring with -8 to Mana Cost of Skills. This is perhaps the least necessary item, but it saves you from potential mana troubles.

With the Elreon accessory, mana leech on gear, and a low level Clarity linked to Blood Magic and Reduced Mana, you do not need any mana nodes on the tree. Depending on character level, gear, and gem links, you may not need Clarity or the Elreon accessory.

For Flask, use the following:
  • Saturated Eternal Life Flask of Staunching
  • Atziri's Promise Amethyst Flask
  • Ample Jade Flask of Reflexes
  • Saturated Eternal Life Flask of Warding
Note from Tempada:
Do not level Clarity or Cleave past level 5. Since there's no room for Clarity on mana, the gem must be linked to Blood Magic and reserve life instead. The lower the level of Clarity, the better. Cleave's mana cost increases at level 6, which is exactly what we don't want, and the physical damage bonus at higher levels is insignificant. I recommend equipping two Cleave gems as you go. Use one for attacking but don't level it; level the other and convert it into a 20% quality gem once it hits level 20, then use that as your main gem for the extra attack speed.

Expect 20-30k tooltip dps with maxed gems in a 4L, 30-40k in a 5L, and 40-50k in a 6L. These numbers are with auras activated, without Concentrated Effect, and before flask or Vaal Haste buffs. I had ~26k dps at level 86 with Cleave + Faster Attacks + Weapon Elemental Damage + Added Cold Damage. Added Lightning Damage is even better than Added Cold because it snowballs with Wrath and Herald of Thunder. To make the most of the snowball effect, stack flat lightning damage and "increased elemental damage with weapons" on gear. I now have nearly 50k dps in my regular 6L setup and over 65k dps with Concentrated Effect (great for bosses, terrible for mapping). Reflect is only an issue in elemental reflect maps, and the issue is solved by swapping Weapon Elemental Damage or Multistrike for Life Leech.

The Passive Skill Tree

Level 81 Tree

If you want to see the details on the level 80 tree, go to this link http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgIAAF4EswW1CC4Kmwx9D6sQfxGBFfAWvxmKGY4aOBqPIuoj9iaVJy8o-ipNMHEyATLRNZI6Qj8nQYdFR0p9SshLeE2SUUxTNVVLVvpX4l5FYeJjp2egbqpvnnfleOt9W311gpuCx4MJh3aMNo2_kFWS85smm42btZ_fogCjiqiiqvisR6_rshm18rc-uJPAZsHYwzrGnspKz3rTftQj2L3dRt2o4XPjn-jW6-7sOO0g7YPuDu9673z22vlj-ej66_sJ_MX-Cv66 later.

After level 81, you have options. You could take the three melee and two elemental damage nodes to the right of Retribution, get more life (I recommend Quick Recovery), go through Shock toward Coldhearted Calculation, or head for Celestial Punishment. Between Elementalist, Shock or Celestial Punishment, and a 20% quality Added Lightning Damage gem, there's a 20% chance to shock. That's a powerful debuff, especially in combination with Multistrike.

Level 100 Tree

Alternatively, you could take the reduced mana reservation node to the left of Necromantic Aegis and squeeze Herald of Ice into the build.

Bandit Rewards:

Normal: help Oak for life (recommended) or kill all for skill point
Cruel: help Kraityn for attack speed
Merciless: kill all for skill point

FAQS on this Dual Dreamfeather Build for Rangers:

What about Ondar's Guile?
It's not worth the extra points when your evasion is so high (my rating is around 35k) and when you don't have to worry about reflect from your own projectiles.

How do you deal with X monster?
Target Birdmen, Constructs, Devourers, Undying creatures, and Voidbearers before anything else. Voidbearers with additional projectiles and increased cast speed will tear you apart unless you kill them quickly. Watch out for Minara Anemina and her exploding minions. A Life Flask of Staunching and Atziri's Promise are your best friends, followed by a Jade Flask of Reflexes and Vaal Grace/Haste.

What map mods/bosses do you avoid?
Tempada re rolled Blood Magic and no regen. Everything else is doable if you're careful. For elemental reflect maps, just swap Weapon Elemental Damage for Life Leech. He killed all map bosses with this build, and often with crazy mods, but I have no problem skipping them when the going's rough.

Is the build Atziri viable?
Not for most people. A talented player could kill Atziri with a few gem changes.

So there you have it guys. That's all there is to know about this Dual Dreamfeather Build for Rangers in Path of Exile created by Tempada. We are currently trying out this build (since we are so damn bored with Tornado Builds for Rangers) and so far so good. It is definitely worth trying and with few adjustments of our own, then this build might possibly be one of the best.

If you seek the original guide of Tempada, then go to this link http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1087616 later.
