Here's the best written guide so far on how to pass the Volcano Nest in Dragon Nest. This guide was made by Revertible from Freedom Guild and has some supplementary info from Sieg to make the guide more informative and clear.

The guide can be seen on the video below but before you proceed on watching the video, take time to read the written content on this page as it will be very helpful in passing every stages in the Nest. So without further adieu, here's the best Volcano Nest guide in Dragon Nest.

Stage 1- Prophet Tepopo
( 0:00 to 3:53)
All Elemental Resist +0%

1- Break the Black Spear to get into the safe zone at the end of each bar ( or be a bringer and jump over the barrier lol..). Ignore the yellow spears.

2- Normally the lizard will be invincible during the time he is in that barrier. But if he was ice stacked before hand, you can still deal damage to him until you the ice layer breaks off.

3- It seems to be possible to cancel the Lizards end bar aoe mechanic with engineers mecha siren silencing effect. Had it happen a couple of times while i was running on engi and while running with other engis on my other characters where the lizard would get hit by mecha siren near his end bar and would not do the aoe as soon as he hit his end bar.

Stage 2 – Angry Luga

( 3:55 to 8:26)
Ice elemental resist +20%, others + 0%

1- If you touch the outside lava for any reason ( such as the adad part), you will get burned for 150k per tick. Additionally this burn can double stack so can get 300k per tick burn.

2- Before you enter the second stage, remember to call a number from either 3, 6 or 9 and that will be the lava seed that you’ll be responsible for pushing relative to your map. Sometimes people will say 10 or 2 but the lava seeds will always spawn in the same spots near 3 or 9 either way. To be exact, they spawn right around here on your map:

3- When Professor K enters his end bar mechanic where you have to push the lava seeds, if he has a layer of ice on him still, you can still dps through his invincibility until that ice layer breaks off.

Stage 3 - Flame Flower Stalker

( 8:30 to 11:55)
Light elemental resist +20%, others+0%

1- DO NOT BREAK THOSE CRYSTALS ON THE FLOOR. Kill any summons that attack before entering ( like alfredo or bringers cat or engineers mecha ducks, ect) because if those crystal things break, it can have bad effects and even party wipe.

If you look at the meter below

You can see 3 faces. Every time a crystal breaks, that meter will fill up. About every 40 seconds or so the boss will become invincible and do an effect depending on how filled that meter above is.

- If the meter us under the Yellow Face = Nothing will happen
- If the meter is between the Yellow and Orange Face = Your party will get a Speed Boost for like 15 seconds
- If the meter is between the Orange and Red Face = Everyone loses %50 of their own max hp and gets a no heal debuff for about 20 seconds or so
- If the meter passes the Red Face = Party Wipe

2- Pull the boss away from those crystal things by moving to the hardened lava on the floor and dps. If you’re a Gear Master, put your turrets close to the wall so they don’t accidentally hit the cystals. When you start to see steam coming from he floor, run away from that hardened floor or else you’ll get trapped in the lava and that stuff hurts ( just like stage 2, 150k burns per tick and can be double stacked).

3- The Bosses meter will decrease if he is in the lava ( i.e the lava ” cools” him down..)

4- Just like stage 1 and 2, if the boss is still ice stacked while he is invincible, you can still dps him until the ice layer breaks off ( yes ice stacking is op lol…)

5- If you accidentally got the no heal effect, right before he does it, you can use damage reduction skills ( like LF’s ulti or merc’s howls) to reduce the %50 of max hp effect to a lower value and minimize the effect.

6- Fun fact. Fire shield’s burn can also break the crystals. Fire shield is an ele’s worst enemy lol…

Stage 4 - Divine Crocker Cranos

( 11:58 to 20:24)
Dark elemental resist + 20%, others +0%

1- The worst stage in the nest…..

2- You can iframe through the fire pillars that cross the map

3- His end bar mechanic will take priority over all other skills he has. Right before he goes into his end bar mechanic, make sure all summons that attack are dead. This is because he will only shoot 3 balls and all 3 must hit the 3 pillars that are spawned ( at 2, 6 and 10 relative to your map). He shoots the balls based on RNG so one second he may be aiming at you then the next second he will aim all of a sudden at your team mate. He will aim at any thing that has attacked him and is still alive. THIS INCLUDES SUMMONS. So if for example, you still have alfredo out at the end bar mechanic or a mecha duck or bringers cat, they will also become one of his RNG based targets. And if they aren’t standing in front off a pillar when he targets them, and the ball misses the pillar. gg. It will lead to a ” party wipe” ( learnt it the hard way…)

4- I say ” party wipe” Because although it deals enough damage to easily kill off the party ( like 3 mill raw i think) if he doesn’t shoot all 3 balls to their pillars, it won’t go through damage reduction. So if things go bad for what ever reason, it’s more than possible to tank the party wipe with a %70 damage reduction skill, a good amount of magic defence and a good amount of hp ( exactly how i kept the ele and ML alive in the above vid)

5- As soon as he hits 2x and finishes his end bar mechanic he will do this mechanic where he summons 4 shades.

Let me stress this heavily. DO NOT TOUCH THE CROCODILE DURING THIS MECHANIC.

If the crocodile is touched for what ever reason, he will jump and cause a party wipes ( on abyss mode ofcourse, on easy mode it tickles you). This jump can’t be dodge by anything ( not even moon blade dance or double jump-> sunshine spark) and can’t be damage reduced.

You just need to hit each of the 4 shades around him once to kill them and after you kill all 4 shades, he will get stunned.

Make sure to not use any skill that stays on the field when he enters 2x ( such as umbra or even ele’s ice spear) because if anything at all touches him, immediate party wipe. Summons automatically die when he enters this mechanic so no worries there.

O and if fire shield burns him while he is in this mechanic, it counts as “hitting” him. so ya…… just remember to turn off fire shield around here as well ( fire shield is your worst enemy…)

6- This stage is not lag or slow character friendly. Both Sieg and Rabbit can confirm this >< …..

Stage 5 – Phoenix Lavanock

( 20:30 to 30:56)
Fire elemental resist +30%, others+0%

1- Stomp Nest. But seriously, most of the mechanics should be straightforward from the video.

2- At the end bar mechanic, the phoenix will always fly backwards so keep an eye out where he is cause the crocodiles will move towards him.

3- Fire rings expand ( and kill any summons near you) so just stay away from your team mates and leave the main dps in the center to dps.

4- When he does that ” rush” thing, he puts a defence debuff that reduces both your defence by about %20 or so. Can be cured but hurts to get hit with this debuff on…

5- At his last bar when he disappears, his main body will usually be around somewhere in the middle of the map but it can sometimes be in the slight outskirts of the map. This is proven below when i was soloing on my ele where his main body was at 1pish for some reason

But fastest way is to find his main body is always to just use summons to hunt him down for you =D.

6- There was a method shared on douwan a while ago where when he is does the spinning tornado thing, if you use a %70 damage reduction skill on your team mates, you can tank that attack and opens up free dps windows.

Abyss mode gives pretty nice drop rate overall. Can get roughly 4-5 armour mats per person and 1-2 wep mats per person sometimes. So overall it’s pretty easy money. Other than that, there’s not much else to say about the nest. It’s not very difficult to learn and a pretty fun nest overall. But always better to go with people you know will not get you killed haha…

The following supplementary info and solo video are provided by Sieg.

Stage 1

The skills of the bosses, as well as their rhythm is easily demonstrated. At Stage 1, the Lizard basically has this routine, and the starting A.I mode is random. To explain what I mean, imagine that it has 2 modes: Passive and Aggressive.

In Passive mode, this boss just stands around and circles you (slowly). In Aggressive mode, this boss will unleash 4 DIFFERENT attacks in a row. No long casting skills should be used while the boss uses that rotation. People can observe that I only use my quick casting skills (not that it has any meaning on a Majesty), then set up by burst right at the end/after its “burst rotation”. I won’t describe the 4 attacks since people can observe them for themselves.

The Spider too has a similar style, except that it is much more aggressive, and has 2 attacks that are separate from it’s routine rotation. These attacks are the deadly Pounce as well as the Frontal Slash (small range and AoE on this one). If you manage to bait out every single attack on the Spider, it will fall into passive mode for a short while as well.

Stage 2

Even for this version of Prof K, there are a quite a few things that can be observed, as well as highlighting the strategy for fighting him, such as not chasing him to the edge in the event he does his terror move suddenly. Lazy to type more, but I think you can see my point. ^^ Even stuff like how to push the Lava Golem for some classes is very valuable as well.

This video covers some stuff for Stage 4 and 5 (Alligator and Phoenix) that I think will be of use to some players. Rose has covered the mechanics of course, but what I hope to demonstrate is certain points that players can learn to watch out for. (And congrats to myself, finally no lag spike that would have caused an untimely demise in Abyss)

Those who know the HP change mechanic (or don’t like the music xD) can skip straight to 2:37. The initial portion is basically to show people that Ring Strike isn’t really that impossible to pull off properly.

Stage 4

Remember this range at 2:37. This is the range where the boss stares at you. Well, most of the time that is. He will still use attacks that will go after you regardless of range (the tracking AoE, fire pillars etc.) Ranged classes (okay, the class this is most relevant to is probably Sniper) should learn to abuse this range to attack the boss without much reprisal.

You can observe what happens after I enter the range just slightly. There are 3(4) attacks that he will use once you enter this range (bait them all and you can unleash full hit Ring Strike / charge a Fireball in his face). These attacks are

- Swipe (Right hand)
- Tail Whip
- Shoot 3 Fireballs

The first 2 attacks can be i-framed. Not sure for the third, since I hate to risk burn just to try stuff like this.

From 2:51 onwards till 2:58 is a very huge DPS window (to me anyway). Keep in mind that the 3 Fireballs is the skill with the shortest CD, but relatively simpler to dodge as it doesn’t even require you to i-frame if you are in range, just move away.

The last attack that I hesitate to list is the move where he spins then charges in the direction he ends up in (followed by Breath), which is actually another huge DPS window for us. Even with all the 5 different characters I have soloed with, it is very hard to draw a very definite conclusion. One thing to note that the CD of this skill is relatively long. If you stay at range, he doesn’t use it as much. If the skill is off cd and you enter the range stated above, it is VERY likely that he will initiate the charge. If he used the skill not that long ago, you know that you are safe.

The “Fire Aura” is the same as Phoenix, it will KILL YOUR SUMMONS. Observe as I run away from my Shadow Clones ^^.

While Stage 4 is probably the hardest stage of the nest, the boss himself is pretty stupid. He lacks the speed of Hulk to really scare us, and baiting him is VERY simple. Observe his attacks that I bait. Super slow isn’t it? And you can actually kill him really easily from range.

Stage 5

I totally forgot to demonstrate what Rose was talking about, for the summons finding out where Phoenix’s hitbox is. I was too caught up in finally having no lag spikes for this run. =(

I restricted myself to no double jump and Plasma Burst because I have 3 level cap Sorcs to play anyway. (In Abyss, especially when I am worried about lag spikes, I do anything to enhance my chances of survival)

For Phoenix, the Fire Aura kills off our summons too fast, don’t bother to get them out. Raccoon never had a chance to buff before it is killed off from my experience. If you summon at the end of 0, Raccoon will survive just fine though.

Firstly I want to highlight one of the best Ring Strike opportunities at Phoenix (not demonstrated so I could show jump timing). The move where he does Breath + Stomp, a Ring Strike executed as he jumps up (not before) will land you near full Ring Strike. IF you use Ring Strike before he jumps, you can evade the stomp but lose some hits (when he jumps up).

Tornado – Actually this skill isn’t that scary. Just keep moving is more than enough. I like to use my evade just to have a better line of sight. In a party this actually goes after people randomly. My favourite thing to do is just HoC after I am sure the Phoenix will never reach me in time before the Tornado ends. You can choose to try to squeeze some DPS here or just keep your attention on the middle of the battlefield (where Phoenix will appear) so you can gauge stomp timing better.

His Teleport/Teleport Charge/Swipe I will not cover since I don’t think there’s any point to. Rule 1: Don’t stay directly in front of the boss. Rule 2: Evade. (These are actually nice DPS windows)

Rotating Breath – The HP Bar change mechanic. I have yet to see anyone cover this (granted I don’t read all Volcano Nest literature) but actually there’s nothing random at all about this. Alligators will actually always spawn in the same spots. All will end up facing 5 o’ clock at the start – this is where Phoenix will begin it’s rotating breath. The breath ends at 4 o’clock. One of the best methods to handle the incoming stomp is to always align your camera with the Alligator’s head, till 3 o’clock. This means staring at the Breath from Phoenix straight in the face. At 3 o’clock, you can rotate your camera to the middle of the battlefield, where Phoenix will charge in from 4 o’clock and stomp.

(Being DPS-hungry, I like to HoC + Sunshine Spark here. Do NOT throw Sunshine Spark too early or you still might get stomped on. Throw it too late and there’s a high chance it will be cancelled. The best timing is when the Phoenix jumps)

There are 2 more stomps that I didn’t cover. The first is just a stomp (same animation except there are no attacks before it). It will rise into the sky similar to using Tornado, but may stomp instead. The other stomp is the one after his lasers at 1X. (I was a bit too trigger happy and killed the boss oops).
