Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival has been announced for Wii U by Nintendo as the second spin-off title in the Animal Crossing series (the other is the newly announced Happy Home Designer for 3DS). Instead of a core-game, this title will be a Mario Party-style multiplayer digital boardgame/party game.

SYNOPSIS
The Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival game is a brand-new way to play with your favorite Animal Crossing characters.
Your amiibo figures are front-and-center in this party game, and you’ll get to use them with fun content.
Bring to life an expansive and dynamic board game where the board is based on the months of the year like the core Animal Crossing series.
The goal? Make your villager the happiest in town and party hard with your friends.

Key Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival Features:
* Party with favorite Animal Crossing characters like Isabelle and Tom Nook—who have become amiibo.
* Experience the Animal Crossing universe in light-hearted board games based on the calendar, including the four seasons and seasonal events.
* Bring your amiibo to the party, collect Happy Points, play with your friends, and save your Happy Points to your amiibo to expand your own game even more.
* Use “Animal Crossing: Amiibo Cards” in fun minigames.
Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival will include eight total playable characters, with at least four having corresponding Animal Crossing Amiibo figures at launch: Isabelle, K.K. Slider (who now stands with his guitar in a case on his back), Tom Nook and Mable.
In additoin to the figures, Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival will make use of the all-new Animal Crossing: Amiibo Cards, which work like normal amiibo figures, but are in the shape of cards instead.

Nintendo has confirmed that Amiibo Festival will include more than just the “boardgame” mode that we’ve seen; although what exactly that will entail is anyone’s guess. It surely will not be a full-fledged Animal Crossing game.
Nintendo has also confirmed that Amiibo Festival will require Animal Crossing Amiibo toy figures to play. But will the other mode(s) also require Amiibo?
It’s also clear that this game will not be a digital-exclusive from the Wii U eShop, as a hardcopy version of Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival is available for pre-order from Best Buy for $80, it includes the Wii U game in hardcopy form, alongside two physical Animal Crossing Amiibo Figures and a physical pack of Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards (either a whole set or only three specific individual cards. It’s not clear which).
